9/5/2023 0 Comments Formsnap rapidweaver![]() The bric developers are creating some amazing brics and I started a post in the wish list as I am hoping people can contribute and bric developers including could take some notes from users and bring this into a bric or the builder. Yes there are more things I want see out of the box, but this will all come in time - the good thing is, at the moment anything is possible, if not out of the box, then with some simple code and assistance from people here then its a remarkable platform. The rate is developing changes to Blocs is stunning. I am not bashing RW here at all, but one thing we must also remember is how long RW has been out vs Blocs. ![]() But I did find RW tiresome to use and to design something simple would mean hunting for stacks all the time to do basic things and this would massively slow down the design process etc. I was a huge rapidweaver user too - and I will say I do love Joe Workmans work with foundation. It’s expensive to invest in more than one system. A final aspect is how much your willing to invest. Blocs is developing at a rapid rate of knots. At the moment I think RW is more mature and offers more features. Both RW and Blocs can built great websites. I believe that knowing a system well is what’s important. In the end there are pros and cons to all systems. Bootstrap is great but carries a lot of bloat depending on your usage. All I can say is that Joe Workman has done an amazing job. Some have questioned Foundations development. In terms of frameworks both Bootstrap and Foundation are good. I like the direction of Blocs, but find development of more complex sites harder simply because RW has stacks that do just about anything. Alloy for Foundry allows you to run a fully functioning blog that looks good also and allows you to create sections on your website that allows you to edit content in the browser not RW. It really depends on your needs and how much your willing to spend. Foundation is closest to Blocs in terms of CSSesque editing. My experience is that RW is a more mature product. Blocs uses the blocs store and RW uses Stacks. Both apps recognise that you’ll need further functionality to create feature rich websites. The systems are similar in that they allow you to create websites. I’ve used it for 10 years and also have blocs. I just hope in the near future the the RW community can see the need for a true db stack.I’d be a bit cautious in dismissing RW. I have written the code to get them functional but isn’t it a shame I had to spend lots of time doing that when a nice paid app would have done it for me.Īnd yes the skills investment is always nice but as I approach my 60th birthday I would rather spend the time on other things You actually said that the sites I have mentioned don’t sound too hairy… and you are right. I’m not bagging RW but it does have some limitations. What I am finding is that RW is fantastic with sites that need to look good through the nice work of theme developers and while there is some basic functionality in available stacks, once you start thinking a little deeper RW can’t deliver. To me it’s like cheese and good wine… they just go together naturally. I am happy cutting code however I came to the RW space because it looked like I could save myself lots of time by dropping stacks in and getting nice websites running.Īnd I was really happy when I started using StackApps as I like db driven sites. Hence my question is anyone looking or thinking of building db stacks or maybe picking up StackApps and bringing it back? I would happily pay for it if it were a paid app. I’m not looking for a work around and sadly StackApps would have met most of my needs however as it is no longer supported I will end up writing a lot of my own code for the sites I am building. Now I don’t think any of the CMS stacks you have suggested will handle that. They need the ability for members to be able to login and update their details, change or reset their password and view their previous scores. They want membership records and to keep track of scores for the members. ![]() Yes there are off the shelf but they are hideously expensive.Īnother is the sporting club I am building a site for. He wants to keep track of customers details, purchases and other bits like their hair colour etc.Ĭlearly a CMS system will full short here. I agree there are some instances when a CMS will do the job however for the sites I am working on it won’t do and in my humble opinion it is a large void in the RapidWeaver / Stacks offering.įor instance… the hairdresser price list would work fine until he asked for a client (customer) tracking system.
